30-0. At home. Against the 32nd-ranked defense in the NFL. In-fighting on the sidelines.
The offensive line is still awful. 4 sacks, 4 INTs for Frye, most of which were the result of him being about to get drilled by a sacker (one was a hail-mary).
Edwards needs to shut his mouth. He's still my boy, but I think we're on a bit of a break right now. Let things like your 22 yard, dragging-six-dudes-before-going-down play do the talking. To act like it's one person's or one unit's fault (depending on who you believe, he was either calling out Frye, or calling out the o-line) is ludicrous.
Crennel needs to do some coaching. There's no reason for your team to come into a game that flat. And no excuse for it.
I know the Browns aren't that bad, but they looked like the 1999 versions of themselves yesterday.

I was all for patience, but after viewing the game in person I have decided that Charlie Frye is not a starting quarterback.
Dude is absolutely horrible. Can't read a defense, can't make any progressions, and can't throw more than 3 different passes. (short out, 20 yard streak on the sideline, guy not moving).
Edwards was dumb for doing it on the sideline, but entirely justified with his feelings.
The best parts of mr attending the Browns game yesterday was the fabulous lunch at The Hard Rock and enjoying the unusually warm late fall weather. Yeap, that's about all I got...
after 2 weeks of starting to come around to the, hey maybe frye can actually manage a game and be decent enough side of things, i hate him again.
was he getting pressured? sure. but it's like he didn't even know where it was coming from, when it was coming... not to mention his inability to throw a damn ball.
but despite all that, bralyon needed to do that shit in the locker room, not on the field. and another thing with braylon, by sticking up for chad johnson instead of brian russell, i think that shows where his loyalty will lie after this contract: $$$$$$. he can fuck himself too.
take Branch, Blalock, or Okam, trade back into the low first round and nab Smith (unless he actually falls to the 2nd round), then pick every fucking offensive lineman you can for the next 2 years and see what happens... my guess is we'll want to blow the whole thing up again in 09.
I agree with Koko that Edwards certainly had a right to be pissed at the o-line (everyone is now saying that's who he was yelling at), but he needs to learn to handle things like a man and to: a) do that shit behind closed doors and not in the papers or on tv, and
b) remember that he's just as much a part of the team/problem as anyone else.
As I said, if he'd just let his play do the talking (at least Winslow shows up every game, even when he runs his mouth) I'd be much happier about it.
One other thing I didn't address and that goes hand in hand with all of this QB/o-line play discussion:
A co-worker of mine made an interesting point. They used three different running backs, and NONE of them looked like they'd ever even practiced blitz pickup. A lot of the pressure on Frye came from guys coming in free, because the back didn't recognize the blitz (partly Frye's fault, too) and was nowhere near the position needed to pick it up.
That's as much coaching as anything else, but it's also about Frye's lack of vision/reading ability.
I know you love Troy Smith, Larz, but wouldn't you rather they picked up some linemen to protect our QB first? I'd rather have a veteran for a year or two while we beef up the o-line, and then draft a QB of the future in 09. Just MHO.
yea, but unless you're taking Joe Thomas/Jake Long and moving Tucker to guard, there really isn't a point drafting OL in the first round
That's true enough. I think I just don't see the point in using a pick on a QB who's going to get killed back there.
In addition to Thomas and Long, Levi Brown might be up there too. I remember Shawn Andrews being in the 2004 draft and everyone saying he was a reach at tackle in the first round, but he's ended up being a good guard.
And, who knows... we're probably going to be high enough to take Thomas. Top 5 probably includes (in no particular order):
Quinn
APeterson
CJohnson
I could see teams more enamored with those guys ahead of Thomas, and if we're in the neighborhood....
It would also help if Bentley can walk by next season.
whoa, whoa, whoa...
Any QB drafted by the Browns next year (which is hopefully none) needs to sit for at least 1 entire season before even sniffing the field.
The crappy part is that if Romeo is here it will be a make or break season for him and he may feel pressure to win and force whoever that poor sap is into service too early. Not a good idea.
A vet QB needs to be brought in to start and the rookie should be inactive for most of the year like a Jason Campbell was in Washington with Frye playing the position of backup.
Frye can play the position of waterboy for all I care.
if, and again i stress IF, we end up with Troy i certainly wish that someone (Brunell if available would be fine by me) mediocre would come in on a 1 year deal.
but then again, look what Vince Young is doing.
